How is shilajit obtained?

Whether it is delaying the process of ageing, fighting tiredness, improving strength and vitality or boosting immunity, there’s just one supplement that can do it all- shilajit. Did you know that this miraculous substance is actually found on the rocks of the Himalayas?

Well, it takes years and years and years for shilajit to form. It is formed as a result of the decomposition of the plants and other organic matter on the mountainous rocks. After this substance grows on the rocks, there’s actually an interesting process that follows before shilajit becomes safe to consume.

Now when you can buy shilajit online, in this article, we’ll explore how shilajit is actually obtained.

How is Shilajit obtained?

Like we already mentioned, shilajit gets formed on the rocks of the mountains. These rocks contain humus, sand, gravel, bacteria as well as other impurities. Hence, shilajit needs to be purified and separated from its rocks before it can be consumed. And here’s how the process goes.

First, the rocks that bear shilajit on them are immersed in a vessel full of water. They are soaked for a period of about 48 hours. After they have been well soaked, the rocks dissolve and start forming a thick paste.

At this point, some more water is added to the vessel and the entire mixture is heated. Now, the rocks need to be separated from this mixture so that only shilajit is left. So, for this, a sieve is used to filter out the rocks from the mixture. The process is done a few times so that only shilajit remains and all the rocks are removed from the mixture.

After the rocks have been completely removed, a decoction of triphala is added to the shilajit mixture to remove any remaining impurities and enhance its properties. Often, at times, milk is also added to this mixture but it is not that common.

After the addition of triphala, the entire mixture is heated so that its water content gets removed and only thick resinous and pure shilajit is left behind.
